The Road

The nightmare’s gone,
And it’s early dawn.

I see through a window now,
Not through tears.
The LORD has sloughed off my load
Like the beginnings of laughter.

I’m not bereft
At all,
Just a blinded Saul.

My Maple tree outside is still;
There is no wind,
Just a moment to contemplate
What’s been.

I saw Nana before I rose
So I had to compose
A poem which speaks of death
To death.

Perhaps, at just the right time,
We all will see
Sorrow is but a way lay
On the road to immortality.
